Description

IOTA is hiring an Apache Superset expert to own the full dashboard lifecycle for an enterprise customer in Riyadh — from the business question, to the data source, to a dashboard that loads fast and reads clearly.

The customer's data is spread across relational databases, a data lakehouse, cloud warehouses and flat-file extracts. You will connect Superset to each of them, decide when to query live and when to pre-aggregate, and shape the data so that business users get consistent answers regardless of where the numbers originate.

You will work day to day with the customer's business stakeholders, data engineers and platform team, and you will be the person they trust on everything Superset: configuration, security, performance and best practice. Arabic-language dashboards and right-to-left layouts are part of the job.

What you'll do

  • Gather requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into dashboard specifications, KPI definitions and wireframes
  • Build, test and release Superset dashboards, charts and native filters that follow agreed design standards and work on desktop and tablet
  • Create and maintain reusable virtual datasets, SQL Lab saved queries and metric definitions so numbers stay consistent across dashboards
  • Localise dashboards for Arabic and English audiences — right-to-left layouts, number and date formats, and the Hijri calendar where required
  • Connect Superset to varied sources: PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Presto/Trino, Apache Hive, Spark SQL, ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, and files landed in object storage
  • Write and optimise SQL across these engines, choosing between live queries, materialised views and pre-aggregated tables for each use case
  • Work with data engineers to define the semantic layer, naming conventions and the data quality checks feeding the dashboards
  • Configure and tune the Superset deployment: Redis caching, Celery async queries, query timeouts and database connection settings
  • Implement row-level security, role-based access and dataset permissions aligned with the customer's data governance policy
  • Monitor dashboard load times and query cost, and fix slow charts at the SQL, dataset or chart level
  • Manage upgrades, plugins and custom chart components, keeping the environment on a supported Superset release
  • Run demos, UAT sessions and training for business users and the customer's internal BI team
  • Document dashboards, datasets and operating procedures so the customer can maintain the solution after handover
  • Act as the Superset subject-matter expert on the account, advising on roadmap and best practice — including when Superset is not the right fit

How the role works

  • Reports to the Data & Analytics Practice Lead
  • On-site at the customer in Riyadh, with some hybrid flexibility
  • Occasional travel to customer sites within the Kingdom
  • Starting as soon as possible

What we offer

  • Competitive salary, reviewed annually
  • Hybrid, based in Riyadh, with time on the customer's site
  • Ownership of a production BI platform in a regulated enterprise, end to end
  • A clear path to lead the customer's analytics practice

Qualifications

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years in business intelligence or analytics engineering, with at least 2 years hands-on building production dashboards in Apache Superset
  • Deep knowledge of Superset: chart types, native and cross-filters, virtual datasets, SQL Lab, Jinja templating, dashboard CSS, alerts and reports, and the REST API
  • Expert SQL — window functions, CTEs and query tuning — across at least three different database engines
  • Proven experience connecting Superset to heterogeneous sources (for example a lakehouse such as watsonx.data or Trino alongside relational databases and a cloud warehouse) and reconciling definitions across them
  • Superset administration: Docker or Kubernetes deployment, configuration in superset_config.py, Redis caching, Celery workers, and authentication via LDAP, OAuth or SSO
  • Implementing row-level security and role-based access in a regulated or enterprise environment
  • Strong dashboard design sense: KPI hierarchy, chart selection, colour and layout, and performance budgets
  • Fluent English, written and spoken; professional Arabic is strongly preferred for stakeholder work in Riyadh
  • A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Eligible to work in Saudi Arabia, or willing to relocate with sponsorship (Iqama)

Nice to have

  • Python for Superset customisation: custom security managers, chart plugins, dataset automation, and CI/CD of dashboards via the API or superset import-dashboards
  • React and TypeScript for building or modifying Superset chart plugins
  • Lakehouse and open table formats: Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Hive Metastore, Presto or Trino
  • IBM watsonx.data, IBM Db2 or Netezza, and running analytics workloads on IBM Power or Red Hat OpenShift
  • Other BI tools — Cognos, Power BI, Tableau, Looker — and migrating dashboards from them into Superset
  • Data modelling for analytics: star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, dbt or similar transformation frameworks
  • Understanding of KSA data regulations, including the PDPL and NDMO standards
  • Contributions to the Apache Superset open-source project or community

How you work

  • Consultative: you ask what decision a dashboard supports before you build it, and you push back on vanity metrics
  • Clear with executives and engineers alike, comfortable presenting in customer steering meetings
  • Self-directed and delivery-focused — agile sprints, backlog grooming, working software every two weeks
  • A patient trainer who enjoys making business users self-sufficient
  • Careful with numbers: you reconcile totals back to source before anything goes to the customer
